The Republic of Sectoria is a federal republic which consists of 23 federal subjects, the constituent federated states and autonomous territories which constitute the nation.

Sectoria has three primary categories of federal subjects, as well as two unique entities which are also each counted as a federal subject:

  • Provinces: Sectoria's 11 provinces constitute the largest category of federal subject, and are the country's only true federated states, as each possesses its own provincial government which handles the majority of domestic (internal) affairs, and are each enumerated in the constitution and thus cannot be altered or abolished by the federal government, short of amending the constitution, which itself requires the agreement of all 11 provinces;
  • Internal territories: The Sectorian mainland, in addition to the 11 provinces, consists of 4 internal territories, which function similarly to provinces in that they each possess their own territorial governments which handle most domestic affairs, but differ in that territorial governments exist via devolution and the territories can be altered or abolished unilaterally by the federal government;
  • External territories: Unlike internal territories, the 7 external territories are not located on the Sectorian mainland and do not possess their own devolved governments, instead being directly administered by the federal government;
  • The first of the two unique federal subjects are the PLANTs, a system of permanently inhabited satellite colonies in low Earth orbit, which are administered as a single federal subject by the federal government's Ministry of Extraterrestrial Colonisation;
  • The second unique federal subject is Austros, the capital and largest city of Sectoria, which is administered as a federal district separately from the other federal subjects, governed by a single municipality with devolved authority from the federal government, similar to the internal territories.
