Administrative regions of Palestine
The Republic of Palestine's 39 counties are grouped into five administrative regions (Arabic: منطقات إدارية munṭaqāt idārīyah, sg. منطقة إدارية munṭaqah idārīyah), which as their name suggests exist simply for administrative purposes and the convenience of government, with the administrative regions having no level of government or powers of their own; as such, there is no designated 'seat' of a region, with any particular county or municipality hosting region-wide administrative gatherings depending on the nature of the issue being addressed. The scheme is used by various government institutions for organisational purposes; for example, the Palestine National Police groups its county departments according to administrative region.
