The Alaska Panhandle is a narrow coastal region in the southernmost part of the Canadian province of Alaska, consisting of a long strip of mainland over 500 kilometres in length, covered in inlets, bays and fjords and dotted with islands and glaciers during the winter. The mainland portion borders the province of British Columbia on the east. The Alaska Panhandle is one of the warmest regions of Alaska, and is home to the provincial capital of Juneau, located approximately 65 kilometres across the British Columbia border from the city of Taku River.
