The Alberta Provincial Police (APP) is the primary civilian law enforcement agency of Alberta, the fourth-most populous province of Canada. It is responsible for all local and province-wide policing in the province, with all independent municipalities and upper-tier municipalities assigned an APP detachment that varies in number of personnel and stations assigned, depending on the population and crime rate of the area. The other primary law enforcement agency in Alberta is the Alberta Sheriff's Office, who are officers of the court, responsible for serving warrants, operating provincial jails, transporting convicts and detainees, and providing bailiff and security services at all provincial courts in Alberta.
