The Algerian Arab Republic (Arabic: الجمهورية العربية الجزائرية al-jumhūriyah al-‘arabīyah al-jazā’irīyah), informally known as Algeria (الجزائر al-jazā’ir), is an Arab republic of the Arab Union. It has a population of approximately 44,788,600. Its capital and largest city is Algiers, the seventh-most populous city in the Arab Union.
