Jump to navigationJump to searchThe Arab League is an intergovernmental organisation consisting of the sovereign nation states of the Arab world, namely Arabic-speaking states or states where Arabic is used as a major national language alongside another. It was formed in Cairo in 1945 by Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Transjordan, and Saudi Arabia, joined shortly thereafter by the Republic of Palestine following its independence in 1947. Today, the Arab League consists of 23 member states.
