The Army of Islam (Arabic: جيش الإسلام jaysh al-islām) is a Sunni Islamist rebel group and terrorist organization with active operations in multiple Arab republics, which acts as the armed wing of the Muslim Brotherhood. It was the primary faction fighting against the government of the Arab Union during the 2011–19 Arab Winter. The Army of Islam was estimated to have over 272,000 active fighters in December 2018; it was officially disbanded at the end of 2019, but "irreconcilable" guerrilla elements still exist with an estimated size of 33,000.
