The Assembly of Ontario is the unicameral legislative assembly of Ontario, the second-largest and most populous Canadian province. The Assembly of Ontario consists of 124 seats, each representing an electoral district of roughly equal population (~269,500 people). Each elected representative is called a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA); the 124 MLAs together elect the Premier of Ontario (the head of government, in charge of the Executive Council of Ontario) via the parliamentary procedure: the leader of the political party or coalition holding a majority of seats in the Assembly is nominated as Premier of Ontario, and confirmed by the Deputy President of Ontario.
