In the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the primary federal law enforcement agency of Canada, Assistant Commissioner (French: Commissaire Adjoint(e)) is the third-highest rank of sworn constable, and the highest rank which may be held by more than one individual; there are typically between 10 and 16 Assistant Commissioners. Assistant Commissioners answer directly to the Deputy Commissioner and are ultimately responsible to the Commissioner of the RCMP. Most Assistant Commissioners oversee a particular operational division of the RCMP, most based on different regions but some based on specific areas of law enforcement. There are currently 14 Assistant Commissioners, 10 of whom oversee the RCMP's 10 Regional Divisions, one its National Division, one its Special Operations Division, one its Liaison Division, and one of whom is acting assistant constable to both the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner.
