The Attorney General of British Columbia is the chief legal advisor to the Premier of the Canadian province of British Columbia (BC) and the Cabinet of BC, and the highest-ranking cabinet official responsible for the administration of justice. The Attorney General oversees both his deputy, the Solicitor General of BC, who oversees the province's correctional system, including administration of prisons, jails, parole and probation, as well as the British Columbia Sheriff Service; the Attorney General also oversees the Crown Attorney of BC, who is in charge of the BC Crown Prosecution Service, which handles the great majority of actual prosecution of criminal charges at the provincial level, with the Attorney General handling only the most serious cases. The Attorney General also oversees each county's constabulary (local police) via its Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC).
