Ayoun Kara
Ayoun Kara (Arabic: عيون قارة), also spelled Ayun Kara, Ayoun Qarah or Ouyoun Qara, is the tenth most populous city in the Republic of Palestine, with a population of approx. 348,000 in 2016. It was officially known as Rishon LeTsiyon (lit. "first to Zion) from 1948 to 1967 by the State of Israel, and was renamed to the original Arab locality following the 1967 Six-Day War during which the town fell to the All-Palestine Army and was incorporated into Palestine as part of the annexed Israeli territory following the war. Before its founding in the early 20th century as a Yishuv settlement, the town was a simple Arab hamlet with no more than 10 families. To this day, Ayoun Kara's population is almost 50% Jewish, with the Jewish-majority neighbourhoods still referred to as Rishon LeZion.
Ayoun Kara is the third largest city of the Jerusalem–Jaffa Metropolitan Area.
