Border Security Corps (Royal Canadian Gendarmerie)
- Not to be confused with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), the customs and immigration service of the Canadian federal government.
The Border Security Corps (RCG–BSC; French: Corps de la sécurité frontalière, GRC–CSF) is a corps of the Royal Canadian Gendarmerie (RCG). It is responsible for guarding the international land borders of Canada, with the stated responsibility of preventing unauthorised access into the country by land. It consists of a total of 110,556 enlisted and commissioned personnel, making it one of the larger corps of the RCG.
The Border Security Corps does not guard the international border by air or at sea, which are the responsibilities of the Canadian Coast Guard and Canadian Aerospace Forces, respectively, and does not operate border crossings nor admit travellers into Canada, which is the responsibility of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), although the Border Security Corps provides security details at all CBSA-operated border stations alongside the RCMP as well as security and enforcement officers for Coast Guard vessels enforcing maritime border law.
As part of the Gendarmerie, during war the Border Security Corps, like the rest of the Gendarmerie, comes under the jurisdiction of the Department of National Defence (DND); during peacetime, however, it comes under Public Security Canada jurisdiction, along with the Gendarmerie's National Security Corps and Defence Police Corps.
