British Columbia Civil Service
The British Columbia Civil Service (BCCS) is the civil service commission of the Canadian province of British Columbia (BC). As Canada is a federation, a significant proportion of public services in British Columbia are provided by the provincial government, namely the Executive Council of BC. Except for the elected and sometimes appointed politicians who control them, these provincial government services are staffed by provincial civil servants, employed or otherwise registered with the British Columbia Civil Service. Many provincial government employees, especially those of more bureaucratic agencies, are directly employed and compensated by the BCCS, while others (such as police and healthcare staff) are employed directly by their agencies, but nonetheless registered with the BCCS for benefits, sickness or retirement pensions, and more. All employees of the provincial government in one way or another considered personnel of the BCCS.
