Budapest Naval Station
Budapest Naval Station (Arabic: محطة بودابست البحرية maḥaṭṭat būdābest al-baḥrīyah) is the second-largest naval base in the Arab Union (after Umm Naasan Naval Air Station) and the executive and operational headquarters of the Arab Navy. The naval station is located on the Mediterranean within the municipal boundaries of the Palestinian city of Port Fuad, just east of the north end of the Suez Canal, across from which is the city of Port Said, the most populous Palestinian city, which shares with Port Fuad the Suez Megaport, the Arab Union's largest seaport by physical size and busiest by annual import and export tonnes. Another important function of Budapest Naval Station is the protection of the port and canal, both highly strategic and economically important at the national and international level. Not including base operational support vessels (such as tugboats), a total of 25 naval vessels are stationed at the base. While officially designated and administered as a single naval base, Budapest Naval Station actually comprises three separate physical bases: the main base, which houses 15 vessels, the command centre and most of the administrative offices, living quarters and other facilities, is located on Port Fuad's northern coast, taking up essentially the entirety of the city's coastline along the Mediterranean; the second and third areas are located southeast of the main base, on the eastern arm of the Suez Canal which divides Port Fuad from the Sinai Peninsula mainland, each housing five vessels and separated from each other by the main oil terminal of the Suez Megaport.
Budapest Naval Station is the current home base of the following naval vessels, each of which has a dedicated wetdock for use while in service or on call and a drydock for maintenance and repairs: two full-sized nuclear-powered aircraft carriers (ANS Jamahiriya and ANS Gamal Abdel Nasser), two cruisers (ANS Tishreen and ANS Saedeh), three destroyers (ANS Fareseh, ANS Sinai and ANS Suez), two ICBM-equipped nuclear submarines (ANS Shabaha and ANS Heshasheh), two frigates (ANS Shujaeh and ANS Admiral Aita), four amphibious assault ships (ANS Motarideh, ANS Ikhtiraqiya, ANS Temsaha and ANS Michel Aflaq), six corvettes (ANS Kasshafeh, ANS Abdul Muntaqem, ANS Abdul Wali, ANS Laboeh, ANS Modafeah and ANS Moftares), one hospital ship (ANS Nashashibi), one replenishment oiler (ANS Salaba), two combat logistics support ships (ANS Nazeera and ANS Motabarreah), seven tugboats, three armed patrol hovercraft and three unarmed patrol speedboats (the last three categories are attached to the naval base as support vessels; they are not individually named, instead bearing the name of their base and a unique three-digit callsign).
