The Communist Party of Indochina (CPI) is the founding and ruling political party of the People's Republic of Indochina, a federal socialist republic in Southeast Asia. It is actually composed of five party branches, each of which forms government in one of the five republics of Indochina, the country's constituent federated states. All members of the CPI are simultaneously members of one of the five branches, each of which has its own Central Committee and Politburo, which are elected by the party branch's annual Party Congress. Each branch Party Congress also elects members to the Central Committee of the CPI, which then elects its own Politburo; members of this centre form the federal government.
