Counties of Vancouver Island
From JSC Archives
Jump to navigationJump to searchThe Canadian province of Vancouver Island consists of ten counties, nine located on the namesake main island and including smaller nearby islands, and one consisting of the Gulf Islands in the Georgia Strait.
The most populous municipality of each county serves as its administrative seat. Each county has its own county constabulary, which is responsible for policing at the county level and which contracts with all municipalities within the county to provide municipal policing services. County constabularies coordinate with each other when handling cross-county law enforcement matters, but provincial policing is technically under the jurisdiction of the Vancouver Island Sheriff Service (VISS).
