Jump to navigationJump to searchDamascus (Arabic: دمشق dimashq) is the capital and largest city of the Syrian Arab Republic, and the Arab Union's fourth most populous city after Cairo, Baghdad and Riyadh. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the world. Damascus is the closest major city to the union capital Nasser City, with which it forms a large conurbation. Damascus is home to the Damascus Stock Exchange, by far the nation's largest stock exchange, as well as the headquarters of the most major corporations, investment firms and media networks, making it the financial and corporate capital of the Arab Union.
