Disaster Relief Agency (Arab Union)

The Disaster Relief Agency (Arabic: جهاز تخفيف الكوارث jihāz takhfīf al-kawārith) is an agency of the federal government of the Arab Union, subordinate to the Main Directorate of Emergency Management of the Ministry of Health. It is the primary agency reponsible for responding to major natural disasters including earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, etc. It is led by Chief Superintendant of Disaster Relief Mohammed Tamimi. The agency also has units responsible for cleanup of chemical and biological weapons contamination, the overall response effort of which is led by the Bioradiochemical Service.
