The Egyptian Arab Republic (Arabic: الجمهورية المصرية العربية al-jumhūriyah al-‘arabīyah al-miṣrīyah; Egyptian pronunciation: el-gomhōreyah el-‘arabeyyah el-maṣreyyah), informally known as Egypt (مصر miṣr / maṣr), is one of the 20 republics of the Arab Union. With a population of 115.56 million as of January 2020, Egypt is the most populous republic of the Arab Union and home to over a fifth of the union's total population. The capital of Egypt is Cairo, which is also the largest city in the Arab Union with a population of 22.25 million, and the premier urban centre of the Nile Delta Megalopolis, the largest conurbation in the union with a population exceeding 45 million or nearly half the total Egyptian population.
