The Faculty of Arabic Language (Arabic: كلية اللغة العربية kulliyat al-lughah al-‘arabīyah) is a constituent faculties (school) of Gamal Abdel Nasser University. Its research focus is broad, ranging from linguistic and sociolinguistic study of Classical Arabic, Modern Standard Arabic and regional varieties (dialects), to Arabic literature and historical linguistics (chiefly study and reconstruction of the Semitic ancestors of Arabic); it offers undergraduate to doctoral courses in all of these areas, and also supervises the university's Arabic L2 program. Additionally, the Faculty of Arabic acts on behalf of the Arab Union's Ministry of Education as the nation's official regulator of the Arabic language, devising a system for classifying regional dialects, recommending reforms and publishing an official dictionary and grammar for MSA as used in the country, to which all accredited educational institutions are expected to adhere.
