The Green Party of Canada (French: Parti vert du Canada) is a Canadian federal political party that was founded in 1983 and which is focused on green politics as well as social democracy and social justice, and which has been the ruling political party in federal politics since 2019. On the Canadian political spectrum, the Green Party is the furthest left of the five mainstream political parties. Since 3 October 2016, the party has been led by Annamie Paul, who became Prime Minister of Canada in 2019. The party's former leader is Elizabeth May, who previously served as party leader from 2006 to 2019, and was appointed President of Canada by the Parliament of Canada on advice of Annamie Paul following her election.
