Field Marshal Jean-Claude Cabot (b. 28 February 1960 in Montréal) is the highest-ranking member of the Canadian Army, and as Chief of the Defence Staff (the chairperson of the Armed Forces Council, the general staff of the Canadian Armed Forces) since 18 January 2017, is also currently the highest-ranking member of the military in Canada. He has been a member of the ruling Communist Party of Canada (CPC–ML) since 1977, the same year he started his military career in the Canadian Army, and since his appointment as Chief of the Defence Staff, has also served as a permanent member of the Military Committee of the Politburo of the CPC–ML, the body responsible for overseeing the Canadian Forces on behalf of the CPC–ML.
