In the Canadian Republic, a Member of Assembly (French: Membre de l'Assemblée), in both languages usually known by the acronym MA, is an elected member of a provincial or territorial assembly, the legislative assembly of one of the 13 provinces or five territories of Canada. The party/coalition holding a majority of seats in its respective provincial/territorial assembly nominates one of its MAs as premier, the provincial/territorial head of government, who is officially confirmed as such by the province's deputy president or the territory's commissioner. Premiers go on to select their cabinet from amongst other sitting MAs.
