The Middlesex County Police Board is the official employer of the Middlesex County Police Service, as well as the police service's de facto civilian oversight committee. It consists of the County Manager of Middlesex County as well as the mayor of each of Middlesex County's seventeen incorporated municipalities; this eighteen-member council appoints an outside individual as the county's Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), who is responsible for the Police Board's executive leadership as well as liaison with the Chief Constable and Deputy Chief Constable of the Middlesex County Police. While the PCC is the executive leader of the Police Board and responsible for acting on its behalf between board sessions, the Police Board retains ultimate policymaking power, and can remove the PCC by a vote of no confidence and thereafter elect a new one.
