Military Police Directorate (Arab Union)
The Military Police Directorate (Arabic: إدارة الشرطة العسكرية idārat ash-shurṭah al-ʿaskarīyah) is an agency under the Ministry of Defence of the Arab Union. It functions as the provost (law enforcement unit) of the Union Defence Forces (Armed Forces of the Arab Union), responsible for enforcing law and order in the armed forces, conducting criminal investigations involving military personnel and/or property, and guarding military and Ministry of Defence sites. It also assists the National Police with public security during major national events, and enforces order across society in areas under martial law (domestic or foreign warzones controlled by the Arab Union), either controlling or replacing existing civilian police formations. The Military Police forces employ the same ranking system as the Arab Army; however, only officers may be employed in the investigative departments of the Military Police, enlisted members being responsible for maintaining law and order, arresting offenders and other general policing duties within the context of the military. Military police personnel can be distinguished by their red berets, or by their police-style helmets.
