The Military Presidium (Arabic: الرئاسة العسكرية ar-riʾāsah al-ʿaskarīyah) is an institution within the National Command of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party. It concerns itself with government policy concerning the Armed Forces of the Arab Union. It is led by the Secretary of the Military Presidium, who is formally appointed by the National Secretary of the Ba'ath Party. As the Ba'ath Party is the ruling political party of the Arab Union, the Secretary of the Military Presidium typically (and currently) serves as Minister of Defence of the Arab Union. All high-ranking officers and general staff of the military are required to be active members of the Ba'ath Party or one of its six allied parties in the National Progressive Front, and in their capacity as service personnel report to Party leadership via the Military Presidium.
