Minister of Statistics and the Census (Canada)
The Minister of Statistics and the Census is a senior minister of the Crown within the Cabinet of Canada, who is charged with overseeing Statistics Canada, the primary agency of the Canadian federal government concerned with the collection, organisation and dissemination of statistics relating to the civilian aspects of the national economy, as well as directly overseeing the Census Bureau, an agency of Statistics Canada responsible for conducting a nationwide census every five years, the next of which is scheduled for June 2021.
Drawing on the seemingly endless supply of data available to Statistics Canada, as well as the provinces' and territories' statistics and data, the Census Bureau also makes national population estimations on average twice a year, typically during the second and fourth quarters.
The incumbent Minister of Statistics and the Census is Dr. Anil Arora, in office since 14 September 2016.
