The Monarchy of Haida Gwaii is a central institution of the sovereign island country of Haida Gwaii, dating to at least 6000 BC, possibly earlier as archaeological evidence suggests the islands were settled by the direct ancestors of the Haida people as early as 11,000 BC. A constitutional monarchy, the throne of Haida Gwaii has been held since 1810 by the House of Haanas, the current ruling monarch, Tāan II, being the dynasty's 11th ruler.
