The Muslim Brotherhood is a Sunni Islamist fundamentalist political party, which plays a role in multiple fields including charity, education, hospitality and politics. It is designated a terrorist organisation by multiple states including the Arab Union, where it represents the conservative religious opposition to those countries' secular governments and a significant source of political subversion and armed insurgency. The Army of Islam, the armed wing of the Brotherhood, has been at war with the Ba'athist government of the Arab Union since mid-2011, which the Brotherhood considers to be heretical due to its secular policy and Shiite-dominated leadership.
