The Nasser City Civil Claims Court was a court of first instance responsible for hearing most civil claims such as lawsuits, copyright disputes, applications for divorce, etc. in the Nasser City Judicial District. It occupied the New City Courthouse from its opening in 1979 until the court's dissolution in 1990 as part of that year's judicial reforms, which made civil claims court obsolete and expanded the mandate of local district courts to hearing all civil claims in addition to criminal trials (with the exception of litigants who opt to have their civil claims tried in the newly established system of confessional courts).
