National Nuclear Energy Agency (Arab Union)
The National Nuclear Energy Agency (NNEA; Arabic: جهاز الطاقة النووية الوطني jihãz aṭ-ṭãqah an-nũwīyah al-waṭanī) is an agency of the Arab Union's federal government under the Ministry of Energy. Its primary responsibilities are the planning, development, operation and maintenance of the Arab Union's 15 operational nuclear power plants, as well as the enforcement of safety standards and other regulations related to nuclear power production and research and development. The NNEA also oversees the production of nuclear-powered submarines and aircraft carriers used by the Arab Navy, and is purported to also direct the technical aspects of the production and maintenance of nuclear weapons (although this is denied by the NNEA, as the Arab Union does not officially acknowledge its possession of nuclear weapons).
