Jump to navigationJump to searchThe Nile (Arabic: النيل an-nīl) is the longest river in Africa, and either the longest or second-longest in the world (the other being the Amazon in South America). The Nile is approximately 6,650 km (4,130 mi) in length, with a drainage basin that covers ten countries: Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, and the Arab Union, flowing from Lake Victoria in South–Central Africa northward to empty into the Mediterranean Sea in the Arab Union's Egyptian Arab Republic.
