Pender Street Jail is one of the larger jails of the North Fraser County Department of Corrections (NFCDC), which operates all jails and remand/pretrial centres in North Fraser County, the most populous county of the Canadian province of British Columbia (BC). The jail, while operated by the NFCDC, is part of a connected complex of several law enforcement and judicial facilities, namely the North Fraser County Superior Court, the primary criminal court of North Fraser County, as well as Pender Street Station, a large police station which is shared by both the Lower Mainland Constabulary (the law enforcement agency responsible for North Fraser County and the six adjacent counties of the Lower Mainland) and the British Columbia Provincial Police (BCPP). As the British Columbia Sheriff Service (BCSS) is responsible for the secure transportation of all inmates between not only provincial but county remand centres, the BCSS also maintains a small station in the secure area just outside the jail entrance of the facility. The actual offices of Pender Street Station are on the upper floors, while the Criminal Court takes the ground, 2nd and 3rd floors and the jails the extensive basement.
