In the Union of Arab Republics (UAR; informally the Arab Union]], a police district (Arabic: منطقة الشرطة minṭaqat ash-shurṭah) is a special-purpose local authority for which a National Police district office is responsible. All patrol units are assigned to a specific detachment (local station), each of which is subordinate to its respective district office.

For the most part, police districts are geographically coterminous with regular districts, the administrative divisions of a republic which each encompass several council areas (units of local government). Each police district maintains a police council, which acts as civilian oversight of local policing operations; police councils are composed of one council member from each local council within the police district. The police council elects from amongst itself a member to chair council meetings
