Port of Latakia
The Port of Latakia (Arabic: ميناء اللاذقية mīnā’ al-lādhiqiyah) is the largest port in Syria and 15th largest in the Arab Union. The Port of Latakia is located on an enclosed, deepwater harbour, and offers eight bulk terminals, two container terminals, two automobile terminals, an oil terminal with tanker pumping facility, cruise ship terminal, and shipyard with two full-size dry docks. The container terminals are served by an adjacent rail yard with intermodal loading facilities, and a feeder pipeline connects the port's oil terminal to the Pan-Mesopotamian Pipeline. The Port of Latakia also has a ferry terminal with regular walk- and drive-on service to Limassol, Cyprus and Mersin, Turkey. Additionally, the Coast Guard maintains a regional station there, and sharing the harbour immediately south of the port is Arsuzi Naval Station, a minor base of the Arab Navy. The port, naval station and harbour and supporting infrastructure employs over 4500 people, making it an important staple of the economy of Latakia.
