The Qatari Arab Republic (Arabic: الجمهورية العربية القطرية al-jumhūriyah al-‘arabīyah al-qaṭarīyah), informally known as Qatar (قطر qaṭar), is one of the 20 member republics of the Arab Union. It is surrounded on three sides by the Persian Gulf, and shares a land border with the Peninsular Arab Republic to the south. Its capital and largest city is Doha, whose metropolitan area is home to over 80% of the republic's population, which the census of December 2020 recorded as 3,125,308.
