RCMP "E" Division
"E" Division is a division of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the federal and national law enforcement agency of the Canadian Republic. "E" Division is responsible for the policing operations and investigations in the Canadian province of British Columbia (BC) which fall under federal jurisdiction. Provincial policing is the responsibility of the British Columbia Provincial Police (BCPP) and the British Columbia Sheriff Service (BCSS), which are responsible to the Government of British Columbia. "E" Division maintains liaison officers for both provincial police services, as well as all local constabularies in the province such as the Lower Mainland Constabulary.
"E" Division is headquartered in New Westminster, North Fraser County, the capital city of BC, a few blocks from the headquarters of the Lower Mainland Constabulary on Columbia Street. The only actual regular policing activities performed by "E" Division are traffic patrols on federal highways; otherwise, the division limits its operations to federal investigations handled by plainclothes officers. Serious operations under federal jurisdiction requiring armed, uniformed officers, such as nationwide manhunts, are usually led by the Canada Sheriff Service with the cooperation of provincial and local law enforcement.
