Special Expeditionary Corps
The Special Expeditionary Corps (Arabic: فيلق الحملات الخاصة faylaq al-ḥamlāt al-khāṣah) is an elite paratrooper corps which serves as the special forces of the Arab Air Force. It is the only Air Force division to consist of infantry fighting units, and is primarily used for rapid-insertion special forces operations which usually operate in a clandestine manner. Some of their most notable operations have included high-stakes hostage rescue missions, covert extractions of enemy leadership (military and civilian), denial of enemy forces the use of their weapons of mass destruction, sabotage of sensitive enemy infrastructure including communications, transportation and energy systems, and rapid-insertion anti-terrorist operations both within the Arab Union and abroad.
While the Special Expeditionary Corps is technically part of the regular Arab Air Force, its commanding officers are also high-ranking officers of the Air Force Intelligence Directorate. The main advantage of this setup is that it affords the Special Expeditionary Corps the ability to partake in top-secret operations to which the rest of the Air Force including its General Staff may not be privy.
