Tabat Shajara (Arabic: تبة الشجرة) is a Palestinian municipality and city home to approximately 303,800 people, located immediately across the Suez Canal from the Egyptian city of Ismailia, of which it is a commuter city and its most populous suburb. A mostly residential municipality, over half of the working population of Tabat Shajara commute to Ismailia daily for work; businesses in the suburb are mostly limited to the service sector, such as supermarkets, restaurants, stores, etc. The Ismailia Metro's Blue Line passes under the Suez Canal to the north of Tabat Shajara, stopping at three stations in the city before terminating at Birket Abu Jamous Station in the south of the city.

Tabat Shajara Airbase, a major military airbase of the Arab Air Force, is located in the southeast of Tabat Shajara within its municipal boundaries. It is the single largest employer within Tabat Shajara, with an estimated 1100 residents employed as civilian administrative and support staff and an additional at least 3000 employed by the various contractors providing the airbase with supplies and services. The only comparably large employer in Tabat Shajara is the NOVA III Nuclear Power Station, a large nuclear power plant that provides the majority of electricity for the Suez Canal and its facilities as well as for much of the canal's surrounding communities and industry.
