Terpoatrae (English IPA: /tərˈpʰoʊ.əˌtreɪ/; Basque: Aterpuhartea; Killarne: Tiérpuatræ) is the second-largest and second-most populous of the Duchy of Biscay's 23 islands. The island is approximately 18% the physical size of Santua, the duchy's main island, which is located about 25 km northwest of Terpoatrae. The majority of the duchy's other islands are located closer to Terpoatrae than Santua, with Terpoatrae itself Santua's closest neighbour. Terpoatrae's largest settlement and only city is Arrantzea, located along a coastal inlet on the island's northeast side; the city is the primary gateway to and economic hub of Terpoatrae, as it is home to the island's only commercial seaport and only airport as well as most of the island's businesses, private and government headquarters, and industry. According to the December 2020 census, Terpoatrae had a population of 115,340, just under two-thirds of whom lived in Arrantzea.
