The Toronto Metropolitan Police Area is the geographical area under the jurisdiction of the Toronto Metropolitan Police (TMP), the largest local civilian law enforcement agency in Canada by number of personnel. It is coextensive with the municipal boundaries of Toronto, but was created before the most recent amalgamation when certain areas under the jurisdiction of the TMP were separate municipalities; today, it is coterminous with the ten boroughs of Toronto.

The civilian authority in charge of law enforcement efforts in the police area is the Toronto Metropolitan Police Board, which functions as the official employer of all TMP personnel. The Toronto Metropolitan Police and Crime Commissioner, usually known locally as simply the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), is a civilian elected from outside the Police Board by its membership, who acts as the executive manager of the Police Board.

The PCC is appointed by the membership of the Toronto Metropolitan Police Board (either via the manager of the Police Board or by the Police Board voting as a whole), on recommendation of the Toronto Metropolitan Department of Justice, namely the Toronto Metropolitan Crown Prosecutor.
