Toronto Metropolitan Police Board
The Toronto Metropolitan Police Board (French: Commission de la police métropolitaine de Toronto) is a seventeen-member committee which functions as the official employer and civilian oversight commission of the Toronto Metropolitan Police Service, the police department of Toronto, the most populous city in Canada and capital of the province of Ontario. Its members are directly elected by the eligible voters of Toronto, and elect from amongst themselves a chairperson who is officially called the Toronto Metropolitan Police and Crime Commissioner, abbreviated Toronto Metro PCC or just PCC when the context is clear. The Chief Constable of the Toronto Metropolitan Police is answerable to the Toronto Metropolitan Police Board via the Toronto Metro PCC, who officially appoints the Chief Constable on advice of the Police Board as a whole. The PCC him/herself is officially elected and appointed by the Police Board, traditionally on advice of the Mayor of Toronto.
