The Toronto Metropolitan Police and Crime Commissioner (Toronto Metro PCC) is the chairperson of the Toronto Metropolitan Police Board, the elected committee responsible for oversight of the Toronto Metropolitan Police Service and its official employer. The PCC is a civilian official elected by and from amongst the members of the Toronto Metropolitan Police Board, not a member of the police, by whom the Chief Constable of the Toronto Metropolitan Police (the highest ranking police member) is appointed and to whom s/he is directly accountable, alongside the Attorney General of Ontario. The Toronto Metro PCC has no fixed term length, serving at the pleasure of the Police Board. While the Police Board officially elects and appoints the PCC, by tradition the Mayor of Toronto recommends a member of the Police Board to the position, who is typically then appointed by the Police Board.
