Amman (Arabic: عمَان ‘ammān) is the capital and most populous city of the Jordanian Arab Republic, and the sixth-most populous city in the Arab Union. The city is located less than 50 kilometres from Nasser City, the federal capital of the Arab Union, and plays a major role in both the politics and culture of the Arab Union. It is also one of the oldest inhabited sites in the world, with some ruins dating to 7250 BC. It is the location of all three branches of the Government of Jordan, as well as the home of the Premier of Jordan, Raghadan Palace. The city had an estimated population in December 2020 of 4.22 million, and constituted the centre of a metropolitan area with an estimated population of 6.76 million.
