Cabinet Secretary of Canada
The Cabinet Secretary of Canada (French: Secrétaire du Cabinet du Canada) is a senior member of the Cabinet of Canada, the highest executive body of the Canadian federal government. Like other cabinet secretaries (of the provincial and territorial governments), the Cabinet Secretary of Canada is the only member of the Cabinet of Canada who was neither elected nor appointed to the position, but rather retains the position ex officio by way of being the Director of the Canadian Public Service Commission (CPSC), the civil service commission of the Canadian federal government.
While the Cabinet Secretary of Canada is de jure head of the CPSC as Director of the CPSC, the position of Cabinet Secretary comes with many of its own unique responsibilities; as such, most of the leadership responsibilities toward the CPSC are delegated to the Deputy Director of the CPSC, the second-highest ranking member of the CPSC and its de facto head, answerable only to the Director/Cabinet Secretary.
