Huocupao

Huocupao is an uninhabited atoll of Antilla, located about 33 km northeast of Cape Campo. It covers about 103 km2, though most of this area is occupied by a shallow enclosed lagoon, with the nine cays surrounding the lagoon constituting a total land area of only 17.8 km2, making Huocupao the third smallest island in Antilla.

The atoll's name is likely derived from a Carib toponym meaning "island of cassava beer". Indeed, the atoll has no freshwater source other than a handful of small underground springs, and its soil is much poorer than the mineral- and nutrient-rich volcanic soils of Antilla's tall islands—being one of the few crops capable of thriving in such conditions, cassava was likely grown as a staple crop during the pre-colonial period when Huocupao was home to a small fishing community.

Today, Huocupao has no permanent population; nonetheless, it is home to Huocupao Airfield, a combined military and civilian airstrip used mainly by the Commonwealth Defence Force and the Antillan Coast Guard.
