The Libyan Arab Republic (Arabic: الجمهورية العربية الليبية al-jumhūriyah al-‘arabīyah al-lībīyah), informally known as Libya (ليبيا lībiyā), is one of the Arab Union's 20 member republics. It borders the Tunisian Arab Republic to the northwest, the Algerian Arab Republic to the southwest, the Egyptian Arab Republic to the east, the Mediterranean Sea to the north, and the sovereign states of Chad and Niger to the south. The capital and largest city of Libya is Tripoli.

The Libyan Arab Republic was the scene of intense fighting as part of the ongoing Arab Civil War between 2011 and 2014. Since the end of 2015, however, the Arab Army has retaken control of all major and the majority of minor population centres in the republic, with only sporadic skirmishes occurring near rebel strongholds in the Sahara Desert.
