Michael Sinocrot Women's and Children's Hospital
The Michael Sinocrot Women's and Children's Hospital (Arabic: مستشفى ميشال سنقرط للنساء والأطفال mustashfā mīshāl sinuqruṭ lin-nisā’ wal-aṭfāl) is a 2300-bed women's and children's hospital located at Sahein Ave and Sheikh Said Blvd in south-central Aleppo, opened in April 2020. Overlooking the River Queiq to its west, the hospital forms a complex of three main buildings, two 6 stories in height and one 11 stories. The hospital was named after British–Palestinian philanthropist and retired business magnate Michael Sinocrot, who in 2016 donated US$1 billion to the Maronite Church's St. John's Hospice Foundation, which more than covered the cost of land and the design, planning and development of the hospital.
The hospital consists of ultra-modern, state-of-the-art facilities including three landing pads for medevac helicopters, two emergency departments and two intensive care units (one each for women and children, respectively), a large maternity ward, an operating room, an oncology unit, pulmonology unit, neurology unit, separate psychiatric units for women and children, a burn trauma unit, paediatrics and family medicine centre, physical rehabilitation centre, an acute treatment unit and long-term rehabilitation centre for substance dependence, a stem cell laboratory, several specialty research labs, a pharmacy, a natural health supplements shop and more. The 11-story tower also features a 630-room hotel for families from out of town with a loved one currently in hospital, which is provided free of charge to patients' immediate family members. The hospital is owned and operated by the Maronite Church, but its operational and overhead costs are fully subsidised by the National Health Authority.
