The Military Police Directorate (Arabic: ادارة الشرطة العسكرية idārat ash-shurṭah al-‘askarīyah) is the military police agency of the Republic of Palestine, responsible for all provost activities, meaning enforcement of the law and maintenance of order in the Palestinian Armed Forces. The agency is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defence. In addition to its provost duties, the Military Police Directorate is also tasked with upholding public security during major national events such as presidential elections as well as in times of heightened internal or foreign tensions. Regular civilian policing is the primary responsibility of the Palestine National Police under the Ministry of Interior. Both the Military Police and National Police come under the de facto oversight of the Joint Security Committee as far as state security is concerned.
