The Motor Vehicle Act, 1977 (Arabic: قانون المركبة الآلية عام ١٩٧٧ qānūn al-markabah al-ālīyah ‘ām alf wa-tis‘ah miʾah wa-saba‘ah wa-saba‘ūn) is an act of legislation passed by the Arab Congress on 22 January 1977. Its aim was to standardise the issuing of motor vehicle number plates and insurance standards, among other related issues, across the Arab Union under a centralised authority. It was thus responsible for the creation of the Motor Vehicle Authority which continues to operate today.
